Introduction to Maya - Rendering in Arnold
This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i

Weird Blurring Question?

I've got a bit of a head scratcher that has halted my progression on this project.

When I render out a shot from a scene I'm working on I get this strange blurring on the middle of all the arms on the 'E':

It's there regardless of how close you zoom, and it's always the same size (it's also happening on the 'O' too):

...but only while I'm using Maya Software rendering settings.

When I use Maya Hardware settings, it works fine, and looks super sharp:

So... makes me think it's a simple render setting that is off, and not the topology of my models somehow.

I've played with all of the Maya Software render settings... but it never changes!

I have no ideas. What do you guys think? user added image

Why would it be there for Maya Software but not Maya Hardware?! user added image

is there a problem with the model, like lamina faces or something like that?

I wish.... because then it would make some sense... but no.

I don't know much about rendering... I just want to render this out as a .avi. Which means I need to use batch rendering, yes? Which Maya Hardware doesn't support? from what it tells me?

Yup. Same strange blurring happens with MR.

UPDATE: I fixed it. There was something wrong with the way I was projecting the UVs. (planar from the side).

I skewed one side of the model sliiiiightly down just a hair... and after re-projecting the UV map, it made it happy.

Why ever the heck that would make a difference depending on the render settings I have no idea....

I guess we'll never know.

Thanks for your help, guys!
