light source in maya

I WOUD LIKE TO MAKE AN OBJECT THE SOUREE OF LIGHT ALL MOST LIKE AN NEON SINE, BUT I WANT IT TO COME FROM THAT OBJECT IT SELF. HOW BO I DO THAT IN MAYA? user added image

You probably weren't getting any answers because you were in all caps... people tend to ignore people in all caps... but I'll help you out anyway.

May not be correct, but I think it is:
If you have mental ray -- make the object have an ambient color in its shader.

Then, in Mental Ray's properties, turn on final gather (which I believe translates to Radiosity)... default settings should do.

use the incandesence attribute in the shaders if you are using mental ray. adding ambient colour will probably just flatten out the object which is not what you want.
