texture issue pls help

I am trying to texture a simple box in maya, so I saved out the uv snapshot and applied a texture to it in photoshop, and saved it as a jpeg, but when I apply the jpeg back to my maya box it looks messed up, like a stretched out version of my image with black lines all over the box as well, I have tried every thing I know, PLS HELP

What version of Maya are you using? I'm having the EXACT same issue where my Lambert image won't apply correctly. It's driving me insane. I'm using Maya 2013 x64. It's as if there is no point in creating a UV Set in this version because it doesn't apply textures to your maps anyways....

I just figured out how to fix it.

Window -> Relationship Editor -> UV Linking -> UV Centric

This editor allows you to reassign different UV Set layouts to different Lamberts for the selected object. Hopefully this will do the trick.

The display should have two separate lists. One is called "UV Sets" and the other is called "Textures". In the UV Sets menu, select the UV Set you want to use, the select the Texture you want assigned to that UV Set. All you have to do is click around, and then you're golden.

Under the uv texture editor go to textures and switch from say you created a simple cube, switch from pCube1 | initialshadingGroup to pCube1 | initialShadingGroup|file1 that simple and it took me days to figure it out.

I really dont know what you guys are doing but I have NEVER had these issues or had to do any of this???? I am using Maya 2013 and 64 bit...I do not use UV sets...I really dont see the need for them. Still I am puzzled as to why you are having these problems?

Im with Bullet on this one I use shader to control the UVs, there are times where you will use UV set`s to build a layered texture but I build my textures in photoshop or mudbox so don`t need them...............dave
