Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world

UV Map of straight object is Curved?

Unfortunately that's a common problem with UV mapping, at least in Maya. You could either start with a planar projection, and map other pieces of it individually. You can also use the "straighten UV border" command to straighten out the sides. There are probably some other good tricks that other people could contribute.

Use Planar Mapping, or Automatic Mapping.
Also don't unfold the UVs because maya will try to smooth them that's why you get that effect.

this is a easy one, auto map the door, this will create a few UV shells iddentify the main door one side UVs now in the UV editor select all the inner edges then select move a sow button then you will need to do this again, do the same for the other side. then if you need to go to unfold check that pin boarder is checked then press unfold............dave
