simple texture mapping excercise...

Okay, I have put it off long enough. I have to learn to uv unwrap and texture map.

I have decided the best approach is to take baby steps. Here is a very simple dart model. Shaders of the barrel section are just simple procedurals.

I unwrapped the fins using automatic map, layed them out and took a uv snapshot (jpeg). Next, I created the basic vector graphics for the fins in illustrator and then brought them into photoshop along with the uv snapshot of the fins.

Baby Steps are always good, otherwise you wont learn the basics quickly. This looks absolutely fine...

well done
