Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world
Get halfway through a model and find it's an unworkable mess? Can't add edge loops where you need them? Can't subdivide a mesh properly? If any of this sounds familiar check this course out.

Stainless Steel

I've been trying to create a stainless texture for a set of cutlery I've modelled but I can't seem to get the brushed metal look. Anyone have any ideas?

There is a lathed metal shader on Highend.

But otherwise, you could also map a 2d fractal texture to a basic metal shader's specular color, and for the "brushed" look, you can adjust the offset of the 2d texture placement node to "strech" it so it looks brushed.

Just my quick 2 centsuser added image
