Maya 2020 fundamentals - modelling the real world

Locked greyed out model?

I've decided to tweak an old model, but when I open it up the manipulators are greyed out and the model appears to be locked in position, I'm sure someone was in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago but I cannot find it via the search forum, I had looked through the menus for an unlock, etc command but cannot find it, any ideas?
