making highlights glow

I am wanting to make the specualr highlights glow, can this be done in maya or is this done in post?

It's pretty easy to do in post. Most compositing packages has this feature. Digital Fusions glow effect works great for this for example...

I haven't seen it done anywhere else except for in post my self. Can be done in PS rather easy also. Copy the layer your pixels are in. Use curves on them to get everything black except for the highlights. Gausian blur. Thin Screen it or another layer affect, over the original.
