Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Blend Shape Sliders & Set Driven Key

Hi everyone!

I seem to be having a problem with Set Driven Key actuating a couple of Blend Shape Sliders. Here's the scenario:

I have a character whose hip and butt area did not deform well when the hips were turned. Weighing only partially solved the problem, so I duplicated the offending area (basically, the hips/legs) and made blend shapes for when the character rotates.

Having created the blend shapes, I now attempted a Set Driven Key. I used a local control curve (ie what I would use to rotate the character's hips) as the driver and the blend shape slider as the driven.

I set the first key in the static position (everything set to zero). I then rotated the character's hips 35 degrees in "y" and moved the blend shape slider to the full up position. I set the second key with the character rotated and the blend shape slider set to "1.00". In short, it did work but here's where my problem surfaced.

The deform will NOT occur until the character has reached the full extent of the rotation. There are basically NO intermediate positions. The blend shape value remains at zero until the character reaches the maximum rotation value I set (in this case, 35 degrees in "y"). I'm wondering what, if anything, I did wrong.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

By the way, I've done this before and it's worked. For some reason, it isn't in this case. maybe I forgot a step!
