Tree/Vine growth?

Does anyone have any ideas on how to simulate vine growth or tree growth in maya?? I cant consider paint effects really because I need the tree or vine to be geometry. I know this sounds totally abstract but it will have TV's growing out it. Ive thought about using particles along a curve but im not entirely sure how to approach it. Thanks in advance guys .

Hi!
I think paintFX should do it fine!
You can also specify the shape of the "flower" in the Attribute editor...Give it a try!
See if I can do a simple tutor... user added image
