lost all texture data in mb.... why?

ok, I haven't used Maya in a long while now because I've been fiddlng around in Flash MX... I recently opened a particular mb file and found that the majority of the textures for my objects were gone. No swatches in the hypershade, no uv maps... no nothing. It's all gone. This really pisses me off because I worked long and hard on mapping everything out. I even backed the file up about a year ago and tried to load that version but the same problem existed in it too. The actual texture files are still good and in the same folder I always had them in though. What's more is that I get this weird deformation on the edges of my objects when I pull the camera away and everything gets jaggedy. These problems do not occur in any other files I have.

Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this and is there any way I can somehow get back what I once had? I know I saved my work because I UV mapped over several sessions like over a week....
