Problem with Maya 7.0 Manipulator

I cant get to my handles as they are too big. They reappear when im shrinking the object but once I let go it enlarges again.

You have increased your manipulator size by pressing the "=/+" key you can decrease your manipulator size by pressing Ctl+Alt+a
