selecting opposite vertices

Hi guys,

I hope Im in the right area??

I have just watched a tutorial on modelling a human skull, the query is :

He could pick vertices on opposite sides of a poly cube by ONLY clicking on the right ones BUT the corresponding LHS vertices were also highlighted.

Is there a hotkey or setting to do this?? Basically I want to pick the vertex points on the lower right (jaw) and scale/move/rotate the vertices on the other side without doing them individually i.e right side then left side
