Complex UV Layout in Maya
Over the last couple of years UV layout in Maya has changed for the better. In this course we're going to be taking a look at some of those changes as we UV map an entire character

Model not following its UV Map - HELP!

I am quite new to Maya so I apologies for this noob question.

I layed out the UV mapping for my model, did UV snapshot, painted in the texture, saved it out as targa (and jpeg) and tried to import both. When i import the Targa texture under both blinn or lambert, the model becomes like a wireframe even though i am not in wireframe view.

What is even MORE weird is when i import the jpeg texture, the model doenst appear to be linked to its UV mapping, as in the texture that appears on the model seems to be all over the place as if i havent done any mapping at all.

Heres a photo of what i mean Please help user added image

notice in the UV editor, on the very right side where the head is layed out, i painted the jaw white and the nose black, but on the model its appeared at the back side of the skull horizontally. and thats happening everywhere~! i dont know what to do user added image

thank you!

This happened to me the other day as well - no idea how it happened, but did sort it out.
I tired everything - including deleting the uv`s, rotating them and trying new shadders. But my UV grid would not change no matter what I did.

All I did in the end was export the item as an OBJ then imported it back in. Everything worked fine after that - touch wood.

It could be using the wrong UV set. Sometimes the option to create a new set in the projection settings gets checked on accidentally.
