Delete Edge unexpected outcome

So I've modelled one of 7 parts of a gun intended to be animated for character use, pretty simple design without any ngons (so far as I can tell.)

I aligned most of the vertices to similar heights and z positions where it made sense using Component Editor, doubt it had a serious impact to memory.

I mirrored it across the z axis for a symmetrical model and combined it with the original, now I want to delete the edge down the middle or combine the faces into one face so it can be smoothed.

I was unable to properly combine the faces with any of the tools suggested by people in similar posts, and the delete edge function deletes more that the edge, it totally disconnects the two halves.user added image

I immediately see the problem, I forgot to delete the inside faces. Now that I've got duplicate edges and vertices on top of each other, any idea on how to delete them without history?

I feel like such an idiot.

Got it! Made a whole new edge and deleted the old ones.
