This course will look at the fundamentals of rendering in Arnold. We'll go through the different light types available, cameras, shaders, Arnold's render settings and finally how to split an image into render passes (AOV's), before we then reassemble it i
Here's my latest finished work that'll go in the portfolio. It's a very simple pool scene to show some more photorealistic rendering, and also dynamics effects. All the textures were made by a guy named Ross Marshall, and the HDRI map was from ARTVPS. The rendering set-up and dynamics simulation are all done by me. The dynamics took a while to get right. I had to mess with the masses and frictions a bunch, but I think I almost nailed an accurate simulation. Also, I spent a lot of time messing with the IBL settings.
Here's a link to the animation. Unfortunately it's a little compressed so that I could post it, but you can get an idea of the dynamics easily enough. It's rendered at 640X480, so if you want to get rid of a little of the compression, just view it at half-size:
The shot was not designed to be a spectacular break, more of a medium strength hit on a clump of balls. It would be way too easy to have the cue ball smash into the pack, and have all the balls fly off frame at lightning speed. The whole aim was to keep as many of the balls in the shot as possible throughout the entire animation, while maintaining a realistic look. Try it yourself on a real table. If you shoot a cue ball lightly at a pack of balls, the only ones that really move are the outer edge balls.
Yep its true that happens, what I was suggesting was not to "Smash" the balls at lightning speed but just to have a bit more movement to make it a bit more dynamic
looks good to me
I like how the balls almost lopsidedly do a last little roll before settling. The cloth could maybe do with a little work or just warming up a little colour-wise as it looks a little blue/green washed out.
you need to switch the color of the 3 and the 7, and the 11 and 15. The 7 is a darker red than the 3, and the 15 is a darker red than the 15.
And i play pool constantly and the cloth texture to me seems about right. Not a tournement quality cloth, but better than a bar table.
The breakup shot isnt right. The way the balls break apart even with the loose-ness of the pack. It just isnt right, even with follow on the cue ball it still wouldnt roll in that way. I suggest you watch some billiards on tv, or better yet goto a pool hall and hit some packs with follow, draw, left/right english to see how it will work out. Its close, but not right.
