Maya for 3D Printing - Rapid Prototyping
In this course we're going to look at something a little different, creating technically accurate 3D printed parts.

Wierd things that Maya does quite often...

For me at least.

1) The snap function stops working properly. I'll try and snap to a vert, and it snaps to a vert somewhere else. Does so until I save and reload.

2) Unloads plugins. I frequently have to reload mental ray, although it is always checked as auto-load.

3) The Round Tool and the Circular Fillet won't work properly on anything other than very simple geometry. Maybe it's only supposed to work in those situations, but I find it quite annoying.

Just a wee rant. Anyone else came across these or have any others?

Cheers,

gubar

Yeah I was talking about that to a mate in the industry... I was saying that it must be cause I've got a fairly old computer etc... he said nah, it does that at work too (they've got beastly power stations)!

You have a major problem then wod - that's one of the most essential tool in the polygon menu set!

Maya hates me!!!!!

It's crashed on me before, for simple converting Sub-ds to Polygons!

It crashed one time because I loaded an Image file!

And now It crashes every time I Try and Render my Car :headbang:

Yeah the stability has got me thinking...

at the moment I'm making a room and character, as different scenes... I plan to import them all into one eventually.

My textures are 1024 x 1024 minimum, and most objects are mapped on several channels... I've only got an amd 3200+ and a gig of ram... wonder how it will cope once they're all thrown together?

Yeah I save a lot, something you learn the hard way pretty fast! Probably more so once I've got a busy scene.

This one isn't Maya's fault at all, its mine, yet I never seem to check, when I try and run mel scripts with loops i never remember to check if there may be the possibility of an infinite loop, done that 4 times in a few hours yesterday!!

Try using referencing gubar, Ive never tried it and I think its been improved, also remember to render in layers and hide things your not working on and you should be fine.

this little script might be of help gubar - it lets you set auto save options over any timespan you want. I've not tested it yet though.

https://highend3d.com/maya/downloads/...Save-3962.html

bendingiscool - its a pity they dont have the same behaviour as flash where it does a quick test, catches any crazy loops and warns you that it might screw up - well before you have to kill the process or reboot the machine user added image
