This course contains a little bit of everything with modeling, UVing, texturing and dynamics in Maya, as well as compositing multilayered EXR's in Photoshop.

lol, thats right... it will cure your arspirations, that is only the beginning... you then have to buy some cinema optics to get the DOF and angle they advertize... (which is something really expensive and wont get you instantly cinema feel...)
The xl1 had an impressive array of optics to buy (in fact all the ultrasonic canons...) i guess (whithout having truly made a price/performance) that there will be something for ya at a significantly lower price...

I guess that the best path for producing on a budget would be renting some real piece of machinery (like the sony of tha phantom menace) with a whole array of optics and a pro operator... whith the money youll sepnd on a xl1+optics you can get them to work for ya (24/7) for a week or two... and the last day of hiring spending it capturing all the footage to your pc

Im surprised no one has yet mentioned the chemical process of celluloid as an additional reason.

That would be the reason why they are talking about filters buddy. Normally they are used precisely to give digital footage a similar treatment.

On another note, I donĀ“t think we would be talking about a process that costs a whole lot more than the already expensive lens they were discussing about. He needs a cheap alternative. user added image
