The propellor is controlled by an expression which rotates the it for me, the take off one is different to the one that is used in the flying shots (As it spins faster and faster)

I'm not using motion paths, I'm using a flocking system that I wrote in C++ to give me the motion and banking etc. It just dumps out a text file full of xyz translations and rotations which I then load in via a MEL script.

If you need any help just let me know.

Nice Work on the whole. Seems like an interesting pjt. You are using particle replacement (library) to create your animations? Is this part of your Master's Degree? In any case, it appears that all is going well.

thanks, I'm not sure what a particle replacement library is.... but I dont think I'm using one user added image I'm using data from a flocking system i wrote to control the planes it just sets keyframes every 10 or so frames. i have then just parented emitters to the backs of the planes and that's what leaves the smoke trails.

It's not part of my master's project but it is for a third term animation project.

Ok major update:

Here is the new cut of the animation (it's still at 320 x 240 for now user added image) And I know that geometry is missing in some scenes this is intentional so that the renders are speeded up. I'm looking more at pacing and timing for now.

I've speeded up the planes and they seem to fly much better now (I've got a little script that I wrote to manipulate key frames around that i will post later).

The third to last shot is very weird and the camera goes beserk that will be fixed soon and the shot right before the first smoke one sucks major ass. I'm gonna fix that one too.

The floor texture has been fixed (but isnt in this version) I lowered the bump map cause it was far too harsh for the close ups.

Ok folks get it here: https://www.alanwoods.co.uk/files/cut.avi

Hope you enjoy it and give me some feedback on it.

Oh and the shot where the first plane takes off and the second one follows is too long by far so I will be sorting that too.

Pure_Morning ...
... that animation looks excellent!!!

Since I know it´s still in a rough phase, and you´re still addressing the fair obvious issues like camera linking, I´ll just praise your work mate. It looks trully great. I enjoyed it a lot.

Cheers mate,

thanks man! what do you mean by "camera linking"? do you mean linking in between the shots?

Also does the story come across? I mean the door shutting and everything? There's gonna be a bit more stuff there to show that it's a little kids room and I will have the sound effects of him running down stairs etc.

Is there anything that stands out that shouldnt be there or is lacking at all?

When I say camera linking I mean the cameras attached to the planes, and the one´s on the ground constrained to the planes movements. However you said yourself you were addressing those shots anyway.

The story pretty much comes across. If you ask me I would work a little bit more on composition, maybe work those cameras on a more photographic level. That would be the only thing I would change. I´m working on a drawing to show you what I mean. user added image

Yeah I know about these sharp turns, there's not a huge amount I can do about them, they are a headache from the flocking system (It's called gimbal lock) i've tried adjusting the keyframes but I can't get it to loose that damn flick and turns. user added image I will hopefully cover it with cuts in the final anim though so it shouldnt even be noticable user added image

thanks for your comments user added image

These are sped up mate!! user added image I cant really speed them up anymore than they are (I think in that anim it uses some old shots where they were flying slow so when i re-render it should be fine)
