This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with
complex objects.
I have this shot that calls for a map rolling out, going from completely rolled up, to resting flat on a surface. Does anyone have a suggestion on how I can achieve this?
I tried playing with cloth, deformers, softbodies and, so far, ive had no luck getting close to the effect.
I am looking to simulate some kind of canvas or parchment material rolling out dynamically as it comes to a rest flattened out.
So, for example, animating a bend deformer isn't quite the look I am going for.
There's a tutorial at Highend3D that deals with making pages curl as they are turned, using simple rigging. The tute itself deals with curling over one corner as the page is turned, but I guess you could probably make it work for the entire height of the page, or in your case, width of the map. Failing that, You may be able to use two of them - one at the top and the other at the bottom.
