Mountain texture

Does anyone have any ideas on how to make a texture for a poly mountain where there is snow at the top and rock a mixture of rock and snow as you get closer to the ground?

I think this might help you out:

I've attached a quick image of what kind of results you can expect following the tutorial. You'll still have to play with lighting and all that for more realism but it's a good start.

I tried that tutorial once before and I would always mess up somewhere along the way. I could never figure out how to connect the lambert1 with the dissplacement map into the Initial shading group

the shader that I mentioned off of Highend, changes colors/texture, depending on the elevation of the geometry.

ok, i got the shader to work, but now my question is. How do I place a character on that scene and animate him so that he wont go throught the geometry. Since its just a flat plane till it its rendred I cant tell where to place his feet.
