Well yes and no, your right about the raytracing and the real time thing, but you can get an approxmation of the reflection, it's abit like shadow mapping, and plus i've seen it done, just don't know how to do it! They look pretty good too
sorry, i should of mentioned that it wasn't the 3d scene that was reflecting in the scene I saw but more of an environment map, kinda like an HDRI but used for seeing reflection in viewport.
