Ok I want an opinion, I have made a start on the chassis but i'm not sure if the rust is over the top or just right considering it's located right under the body and gets the most water dripping on it .
Any other crits welcome too

Looks good man, maybe I would possibley turin down the rust on the lowere area as it looks slightly out of scale, to me that is.

Coming laong great man, the bump map will really add to this when its sorted!

The rusts/paintworks on the lowere parts looking better but, to me, it looks a bit out of scale, as on a large object the rust "washes out" a bit more IMHO.

I've tried to find some pics to show what I mean an this is the best I can find

an old ship rusting away, its OTT for what your after but I think it shows the rust/paint transition of a larger object pretty ok.

Keep at it mate

edit- are you going to apply the bumps as desaturated colour maps and then go form there?

Thanks Steve for the references, actually the rust does indeed wash out on my texture but you can't really see it in the images as the scene is not lit properly and they are just screen grabs as apposed to renders.

The bumos will be a little more than desaturated colour maps and I toying with the idea of displacement instead.

There will be Spec maps too after I get the colour map finalized.I'm not entirely satified yet but inspiration will come.

I am also a little worried that using decaying type textures might leave the whole model looking a little dull,guess I will have to get creative with the material choice to avoid that.
