Texturing Transparencys

Hey everyone, im new here, but Ive been using Maya since August, so I guess you could consider me a noob.

I have a chainlink fence texture, and the backround of it is black. I know theres a way to make the black color of that texture transparent in Maya. Ive tried, but no luck. And making the fence nurbs/polys would just be hell. Thnx
