IK handle "smooth" rotation

So I want to achieve the same effect as this dude has achieved with his joints: user added image

I realised from messing around with the options that an IK handle will almost create the same effect, but then i'll get the "smooth" effect from MOVING the IK handle, what i want to do is ROTATE the parent joint to have the children following along in a smooth looking way like in the image i provided. The guy in this tutorial doesn't tell me his options for the joints he created, so its useless trying to find what the trick is in this video ... as ive been searching for the sulotion over 10 times now. You are my last hope Simplymaya!

thanks

The "trick" in the video is that all the joints are selected (not just the base or tip) and a rotation value is added. Give it a try, you should get the same result. That won't happen the same way with an IK handle. I'm not entirely sure what you are wanting in the end (rotating the base joint that has an IK system?).
