This course will look in the fundamentals of modeling in Maya with an emphasis on creating good topology. It's aimed at people that have some modeling experience in Maya but are having trouble with complex objects.

Is it possible to add just a single vertex to an edge/line?

Yes it is just use the split poly tool to add 1 then press enter.............dave

Ah Thank you. I can't seem to find split poly tool on maya 2012? Is it named something else.

Im using maya 2009, I think its called the interative split ploy tool..............dave

It's been renamed. You want Edit Mesh > Interactive Split Tool

Just to clarify, it hasn't really been renamed. This interactive split tool is a new tool. You can access both/either by Shift+RMB in object mode and mousing left to "split".

You can still use the old split polygon tool by typing the command SplitPolygonTool or SplitPolygonToolOptions in the command line. I still prefer the old tool so I put these two commands on my modeling shelf.
