New to Maya... Help setting my system.

Hi,

I'm a new member of the forum and a rookie in Maya. My 3D modeling experience resumes to around 5 years modeling stuff, mostly vehicles, in basic softwares like Zanoza Zmodeler. However I really love 3D art and want to improve my skills in a professional software.

My first objective (before any other thing) is to properly setup Maya into the hardware resources that I have available, even knowing that I need to update my system soon. Right now I own a Macbook Pro 13' from 2009 with the following specs:

2,53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB
13” LCD Integrated Monitor (1280 x 800)
500 Gb SATA HDD
OS X 10.8.3 (12D78)
Maya 2013 x64

So what can I do to improve Maya 2013 to the maximum using these resources?
What settings or adjustments do you recommend in the Maya 2013 preferences?

Thanks in advance for your attention and help.

I guess, Maya 2013 can pretty much run smoothly on your pc. coz it needs minimum of Pent 4, 4 gb ram, graphics card with open GL support.

also make sure that you save/set your project folder under preferences and settings, on a faster hd. I have been using Maya 2013 flawlessly since it launched.

my pc is AMD quad XII, 4 gb ddr2, Nvidia 2gb grahpics card.
