cloud 3d texture

hello. i have the following problem with the cloud 3d texture. i need to make a sphere like the palantir in the LotR movie. i wanted to make a light material, attach a cloud 3d texture to it, and link ramp to the cloud colors, and then animate the cloud texture. but when i connect the ramp into the cloud color, the whole material becomes black.

there are color 1 and color 2. if i set them to a single color - it works. but when i link ramp into one of them - everything turns black.

usually there's a warning message, when vray tries to render unsupported texture, but in this case not. anyway, do you know any other similar procedural texture which would work with vray?
