normal map vs. Ddisplacement map

So i keep having problems with my UV mapping using a displacement map for the skin texture, and i was wondering that since its such a subtle detail would it be better to just use a normal map to do the texture instead?

What are you doing as a final output? Animation? Still?

If it's subtle, go for the normal map. It'll be faster to render too.

yea like i said its just skin texture so i don't see the need for something as extreme as a displacement map. plus i'll be using the subdiv approximation

now here's the next question does it go in the bump map space or the displacement map?

In vray:
Connect the normal map to the bump & change the bump map type to tangent space.

Bump map. In the bump node, make sure it's set to "Tangent space normals"
